Anyone know where I can look up production figures for a 1973 Road Runner, Blue with Blue interior, 318, 3-Spd manual, buckets with "Buddy" seat, AM-FM mono radio ? I know 318 3-spd makes it one of about 1,200.
Thanks |

I'm looking at picking up a '69 Road Runner or GTX. I have seen "B body" in several ads, & don't understand the significance of the different body designations. Any help will be greatly appreciated. |
Chrysler used letters for the different body lines.
A Body is a '65-'74 Dart,'65-'69 Barracuda
B Body is a '65-'74 Satellite,Belvedere,Charger,Road
Runner,Super Bee
C Body is an Imperial,300,Newport,Ney Yorker
E Body is a '70-74 Challenger and Barracuda.
If you look in the front of a Year One catalog, they give a complete listing. |

If I buy a car with an original small block how hard is it to put a big block in it? Do you just relocated the motor mounts to new spots already in cross member or do you need a complete new one? Any help would be greatly appreciated. |
If you have a small block car all you need to put a big block
in it is the motor mounts that bolt to the side of the engine unless
your big block is a hemi then only then you need a hemi k-member a V-8
k-member is a V-8 k-member don't let anyone tell you otherwise I hope
this helps |

Will a bumper from a 74 Satilite fit a 73 Road Runner? |
Both bumpers are the same,
It depends on which 1974 Satellite you have, there are 2 different
Satellite bodies from 1971-74. If its a 2 door it'll work. Hope this helps, Keith |

I broke 3 of the pins off the circuit board on the back of the gauges. Can I buy a new one or repair it? Please help me solve this problem. |
Depends on what you call "broken off". If the pens are broken off and part is still in the circuit board the repair is more difficult. If the pens came out of the board you may be able to carefully super glue them back on the board. To complete the electrical circuit, get some "solder wick" at an electronics supply store and solder a piece between the pen and the existing copper run on the circuit board. (You probably will want to solder the wick to the pen before gluing the pen back to the board, the heat from your soldering iron will melt the super glue, the other end of the wick will be far enough away that it shouldn't melt) You will need to clean any tarnish or covering on the copper circuit board run before you attempt to solder. Some LIGHT sanding with a fine paper will work fine, just don't overdue it. |

I want to thank all of you who have helped me in my restoration of a 1968 Road Runner. I have another one that has me stumped. I have the Hurst 4 speed transmission and I am ready to remove it. However, I need to remove the chrome shifter rod before I can lower the transmission. My service manuals discuss how to remove it but it is for the earlier type of transmission for this car. Can anyone tell me how to remove the transmission shifter rod so I can then remove the transmission? Thank you for your assistance. |

My roll up door glass on my 1969 Road Runner has one hole at top & one at bottom. In these holes are two pins that hold what is called a slide. It is made out of plastic & felt. Can't find them anywhere. My old ones are brittle & falling apart. Spending mega bucks on this bird & don't want rattling windows. Anyone else run into this problem? What did you do? How can I decode this fender tag on this car? Any book I can buy?
It reads like this"
Top row is A,B,C etc with a 7 under the H.
The second row is the same with 0 under the F and a 1 under the R and a 2 under the X.
The third row are numbers and look like this: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
with these numbers under them as follow: 9 5 0 7
The third row also contains the follow letters: AX PNT U
with the folowing numbers under them 48 001 3 (maybe 8)
the fourth row is what I am guessing in the cars VIN:
RM 21 62 5 44 C15 075113
A GM product I can decipher, but this is all Greek to me. I owned A RR 30 years ago and this is the first MOPAR I have owned since. It is a two door post car with the pop out rear windows and I was told it was a 383/auto car...B5 Blue, which at one time it waas blue.
Now it has a 440/Auto and the block number is F 440.
Any help to point me in the right direction will be greatly appericated.
Thank You
Anthony Del Rossi |
Without the year of the car it makes it harder
to decode. You can find the codes in a Chilton's book
or in the Charger, Road Runner & Super Bee Restoration
Guide both of which are available for purchase at the RoadRunnerSite.com Publications Store. |

Does anyone have any suggestions on what size of wheels and tires I could run on my stock 1969 Road Runner. I am wanting to by 15x7 Magnum rims off of coker or Specialty wheels. I want to know this because they have a strict return policy if these don't work out. Thae car has manual brakes and no power steering. So I was also wondering about radial tires.
Thanks Doug |
In term of tire sizes, these cars came from the factory with F-70-14 wide oval Firestone tires. These were 2-ply polygrass tires. There were no radial tires during
these days. They had not yet been developed. You can put 15 inch tires and rims on your car, but they came from the factory with 14 inch rims and tires.
6 pak and Hemi cars came with 15 in x 7 wheels, 255x70x15 should be good on stock offset wheels. |

I was wanting to buy reproduction original wheels for my 69 Roadrunner. I was wanting to put a little wider tire on the car. The car does not have power steering and I was thinking of putting 15 x 7 all the way around with radial tires. How big of tires (wide) of tires can I put on or what would some of you suggest that own 68-70 Road Runners. I have been told that the radials will be harder to turn. So any suggestions would be welcomed. I will order the wheels off Coker or Speciality wheels so I want to be sure I get the right ones. Thanks in advanced
Doug |
I have a new set of 14" original style Magnum 500 wheels with the beauty rings and the Chrysler center caps. These wheels are correct for 69 and up model years. They have a set of Kelly radials mounted. When I purchased the car and drove it home it was very smooth and easy to turn. (My RR doesn't have power steering either). I am going to sell the complete set as I want the proper chrome rim Magnum 500 Wheels that came on the 68's. If you want to put a bigger wheel/tire combo on your car, I have seen 15x7 on the front and 15 x 8 on the rear with no problems. Depends on the wheel offset and tire diameter/width. radial tires are the only way to go on these cars. I'm running 225/70R-14's all the way around on mine right now for that stock look. Radials are so much better than bias plys if you drive the car any decent amount of miles. If you want a stock look there are companies out there that make redline radials but they are expensive.
Stick with radials. |

I recently tried to decode a 1969 Road Runner
and ran into a few problems. here is what I encountered:
while reading the fendertag from left to right starting
at the bottom i discovered that the options appeared
differently than I have saw on other cars. first, the
car started off with E63 instead of the standard RM2_.
the fendertag then showed the V21 for the 4spd followed
then by the RM23. next was the serial number instead
of the partial VIN. the second line was legit starting
with the paint color, T7T7 followed by the interior
color. H27. next however was T7 again. the third line
from the bottom started with 1W, whatever that is and
then was followed by some spaces and then option A 10.
the car wore a white vinyl so i believe the 1W had something
to do with that. i have never heard of A 10 and started
looking for this option and have had no success finding
it on the net. the top line was a jumbled amount of
numbers that made no sense. at the end of these numbers
the VIN showed up. i used the Road Runner, Charger,
and Superbee restoration guide to help decode. i thought
i have decoded enough birds to know where each option
should show up. i could not find a production date.
the VIN matches the fendertag, along with the VIN on
the rdiator support. i have every inclanation to believe
that this car hasnt been altered. the fendertag never
had the word END which usually inhabits the upper right
of the fendertag, or wherever the options end. anyone
ever heard of this? |

I own a 1970 Plymouth Road Runner, and I'm having a little trouble with the wiring. When the headlights are off everything works fine but the driver's side taillight isn't bright. When the taillights are on the same thing happens but the blinker doesn't work either. |
Check all your light sockets for a GOOD clean ground. Sounds like you may have a bad ground which will give you the dim light and blinker problem along with many others. |

I am in the middle of restoring a 1970
Superbird. Problem is I need a guide so that I can do it right. Is there such a
thing? Will the charger, superbee, restoration guide work? I need a restoration
guide, shematic, or pictures so that I get it right. Any help? Door trim to
sticker placment would help greatly! Thanks -kory |

I bought a very good original 1973 Plymouth
Satellite Sebring 318 V8, AC & Automatic. It has been garage kept since new
in central FL. Yep, the seller was an 86 year old lady. A trunk leak did cause
some rust in the trunk, rest is shocking like new with misc minimal ware. For
example, the vinyl top needs nothing- looks like new. To the point, I was
thinking of converting to a Road Runner clone. Is this 'bad news' thinking
considering the Sebring original condition? |
It all depends on what you want. Do you want to
drive a great looking 73 Satellite, or a great looking 73 Road Runner clone.
Since you asked, it is my opinion that cloning the car would cost more but sell
for more where as keeping the car original since it is in great shape, would be
cheaper but bring less at sale. So bottom line is Satellite or Road Runner
clone. You Choose. |

I want to add a/c to my RR convertible, but I
want it to look like a factory install. What are the parts needed? I am
especially concerned about the dash vents... I had a 69 conv. before that had
facotry a/c and I seem to remember vents in the center of the dash where I now
have a blank plate. I don't remember if there were any other vents. I live in
Miami and while I take pride in having a very accurate restoration on my car,
the summer heat makes it impossible to drive unless I can get some a/c going.
FYI...the summer heat starts in March in Miami. |
There is a center vent also vents on both end of
the dash. The heater core box will have to be changed. Also crank and water
pump pulleys will have to be changed to drive compressor. |

How do I remove the instrument panel from my 67
Plymouth Belvedere 4 door. I need to get to the light switch and it seems that
the instrument panel will not come out. Please help a frustrated Mopar fan
|
That dash should be very similar to the dash in
my 66 Coronet. FIRST disconnect the battery. There are a few wires that have to
be removed back under there. You have to be a contortionist to get in
there......but it IS possible. There is a plug in harness that has to be un
plugged, 2 wires to the ALT gauge, the speedo cable unscrews. etc etc. As far
as the actual mounting, there are screws all along the front of the dash face
INCLUDING ones facing UP and some facing DOWN. Look close. Patience is a
virtue! And by the way, the light switch WILL come out with out removing the
dash. Feel up in there, there is a small spring loaded button that releases the
pull switch stem entirely from the switch. You then can acces the mounting nut
that holds the switch in place. The wiring harness just unplugs from the back
of the switch |

I have found 4 69 R.R. in a junk yard. Two came
with 440's, 1 with a 383 and the other no vin, can't tell, but it was a 4
speed, with white bucket seats. 1 of the 440's was a 4 speed as well. No front
ends on any car, and two are missing doors. Car with no vin has motor still in
it, think it is 383, but not for sure. Are any of these cars worth getting for
a $100 each? Thanks, Beno |
69 RR did NOT have 440's in them UNLESS they are
M code 6 pack cars which had fiberglass lift off hoods. NO HINGES OR SPRINGS.
there would be two hood pin mounting tabs in the area of the hinges. |

Hi, I'm doing a rebuild on an 69 Road Runner,
I'm just about complete with the engine (383) and I bought the stock
replacement pickup. When I went to put the oil pan back on, it hit the pickup.
I'm looking at getting another oil pan, possilbe a milodon 7qt low profile. Has
anyone put one of these on a Road Runner? How is the clearence? Also does
anyone know why the stock pan will not fit back on? Thanks |
The new pickups are longer than the originals.
Bend it just enough to clear the bottom of the pan. Be careful don't kink
it. |

1971 Plymouth Road Runner. Is there anyway of
finding out how many were made with the full vinyl top and gull wing? Mine is a
383 car with A/C. Restoring her now and would like to know if it would be worth
the trouble or not to put vinyl top back on it or just paint the top and put
strobes on. Any help? |
Keep the car ORIG!! What is the trouble putting
the vinyl back on? Any reputable shop can do it with NO problem. What the heck
is a Gull Wing? Thats a new one for this 30 plus year MOPAR veteran!!

The Road Runner Site has been helpful in the
past with my restoration questions. While this appears to be a dumb question,
it is driving me crazy. I hope one of the readers can help. I am starting
restoration of a 68 RR coupe. While we have stripped most of the car, when we
attacked the interior, we could remove the front bench seat but are stumped on
the back seat. There are plugs under the car but no easily seen bolts. Nor does
there appear to be a way to remove it from inside the car. Can anyone tell me
the best way to remove the rear seat? I would appreciate the help. Thank you.
Randy Hlavac |
To remove the bottom seat cushion, get into the
car on the rear floor, push down on the seat cushion, and place ALL your body
weaght against the seat cushion going towards the rear, and that will unhook
one hook, then do the same on the other side. With the bottom cushion out.
There are Two bolts, one on each side that hold the back seat cushion in place.
Remove them & lift up & that cushion comes out |

needed to know about wiring for the 1970 Road Runner, has anyone ever heard of
this book or does anyone know where to purchase? I don't know how to use the
foolish e-bay system thanks |

I have a beautifully restored 1969 Road Runner,
383 automatic, factory air, with bench seat. It was built in California. All
numbers match. My problem is that it is the only 1969 that I have seen with a
torquoise engine. I have heard that early 1969's with factory air did not have
the orange engine. Do you know, or have a suggestion where I might find out?
Thanks, Roy |
According to Charger, Road Runner & Super
Bee restoration guide by Motorbooks International, you are correct. "Afew
383/335hp V-8's were painted turquoise when equipped with air
conditioning" |

I'm looking for some hard to find body gaskets
for my 1969 Road Runner. If anyone has a resource for the following I would
appreciate it: 1/4 panel extension gaskets. Plastic gasket which installs
between the tail light housing and the 1/4 panel. (Year one gaskets do not fit)
Air grabber hood - The gasket between the hood air intakes/inserts and the
hood. Approximate dimensions are 3" x 30" |
Nobody makes them and yes YO's don't fit. I made
my own for the hood inserts. Mine were very brittle. |

I have a 1969 Road Runner with automatic, 440
motor, H-pipe, factory HP exhaust manifolds and factory mufflers. Does anyone
have suggestions on mufflers? I am leaning towards 40 series Flowmasters, but
some have told me that the 50 series would be better. Right now, it's too quiet
for me, but I don't want to get pulled over every stop light for
noise. |
Whats wrong with the Factory style Hemi B-body
mufflers that are currently available from a number of vendors? They flow well
and rumble nicely! |

Does anyone know if there is any place on the
car besides the dash that the VIN number would be? I have a 1969 Road Runner
that's missing the VIN # on the dash I have the title and the fender tag that
the numbers match on, but no engine or trans. I want to make sure this is a
Road Runner and not a Satellite before I restore it. |
You might try looking on the radiator support,
top or bottom side. I have seen the VIN there. You may have to look hard
because if the car has been painted a few times, then it will be hard to see at
first.
check the under side of the back seat it should
have a build sheet in it from the factory,it will have evry thing about the car
on it.
Also look for the V.I.N. umder the area of the
trunk weatherstripping channel on the drivers side.
fender tag should have vin bottom series last 13 digits and numbers if 1st and 2nd of 13 are RM is road runner
if RH satellite. |

Were bucket seats available for the Road Runner
in late 1968. I currently have buckets in my 1968 Road Runner and the fender
tag shows benchseat. I have been told by a reputable shop that buckets were
available to the 1968 Road Runner late in the year as an option. I was also
told that the fender tag may not have been changed to show this option. I don't
think so. Please help! |
Bucket seats weren't an option in 1968. There
were two styles of trim for 68 RRs depending on if you have a coupe or a
hardtop, but no bucket seats. Sorry.
same thing build sheet under side of back
seat. |

I'm buying a new set of wheels and tires for my
1970 Road Runner and need to know what the widest set of tires and rims I can
get without having to modify the suspension. If anyone knows please email me.
Thanks. |
If you are running factory 7" rims, 255/60s will
fit no problem. If you have a wider rim, 275/60s will fit. Watch the
backspacing on the rims. You will need 4.5" of backspacing to get the job done.
I have a 71 RR with 295/50s that fit, but the 71s have a different quarter
panel design. |

I have a 1970 factory air grabber, 2-door coupe
that production was started in March of 69, and all #'s are matching. Can
anyone tell me how many were produced that year? |
I show 14,744 coupes in 1970. For info on how
many were built with the N96 option, you would have to consult someone like
Galen. |

I am trying to find out which style wheels came
stock on my 69 Road Runner. There is no build sheet in my car and the only
indication as to what originally had is that I have the A14 Plymouth Spring
Special package. Could it be redlines on road wheels? White raise on hubcaps??
Any help would be much appreciated. |
The A14 was a limited option on Satellites, but
my information says it wasn't available on Road Runners or GTXs. The option
gave you the deluxe vinyl interior with upgraded seat cushions, deluxe wheel
covers on black steel wheels and the interior light package. Most A14
Satellites were painted F6 Springtime Green, but other colors were available.

I want to put 15-inch mag wheels on my 1969 Road
Runner hardtop. What is the widest rim and tire size I can use on the rear
without worrying about backspacing or rubbing on the rear quarter lip? I have
been told that it is 15X7. |
You can use 15x8 5-4.5 bolt circle wheels on the
rear tire options are (my preference) 275/60/R15 rear you can also use
295/50/R15, but you don't get the needed diameter to fill the wheel opening.
275/60/15 is 27.99 inches tall; 295/50/15 is 26.61 inches tall. |

I'm fixing up a 1974 Road Runner that's a bit
rusted in the back. Is there any place that sells quarter panels for a 1974
Road Runner? I've looked all over the internet and haven't found anything yet.
Is there any catalog or book that you'd recommend? I'm also looking for an
owners manual or something of the sort that would give tech specs on my car.
Thanks, -Paul |
try dr-mopar.com or dvap.com for your quarter
panals . i know dr-mopar has alot of Road Runners and satellites that year.and
if you happen to run across any quarters for 71 or 72 R runner or satellite
please let me know. |

I am restoring a 1968 Road Runner. The hood it
came with is rotted, but the inserts are in good shape. I am having a hard time
finding a 1968 hood, but 1969 hoods seem to be all over the place. will the
inserts from a 1968 hood fit in a 1969 hood? |
I have a 68 RR that im putting a Ramcharger
set-up onto. The sides pieces of Airgrabbers and Ramchargers are different. The
69 Airgrabber sides pcs. stick up (mate) into the 69 style vent based on my
visual investigation. So a 69 Airgrabber set up will not work with a 68 VENT.
The center section of both Airgrabbers and Ramchargers are the same And i have
fitted my complete Ramcharger to the underside of my 68 hood and all attachment
holes lineup perfect. The Ramcharger sides pcs have their inlet holes further
inward to the carb and are flush with the hood (to fit the Dual scoops on
Coronets). It is my opinion that 68 and 69 RR hoods are excactly the same
except for the bolt in vent piece. |
