Question: How desirable are 1973 Road Runner 400ci. auto trans. it needs restoration but pretty much complete. Response(s) Is it the car, motor and trans or is it just the motor and trans? it is complete car. I guess it all depends on whos looking. For the past few years the 73 and up road runners are starting to surface a little more than what they did Im starting to see them more often. If it isnt a complete basket case Id start a auction around $2000 I have seen them go for around 5 or 6 unrestored but they were really nice barn finds. I would look around on the internet for cars that are for sale and check prices. you could just take some chances and post it at what you feel is right thank you. be looking for it in the classifieds.out of N.C.
Question From: Eric the bulldog 2009-12-28
Question: HI guys, I recently had a shop drop a 440 into my 68 GTX. The car turned over and started immediately. After letting the car sit a few weeks I went to key it up and it sat and cranked for awhile. I then noticed the small wire on my positive battery cable smoking. I checked it and it had melted some of the black electrical tape that holds it the the thicker positive cable. I rewrapped it with electrical tape and never had another problem. Yesterday I had some family over for Christmas and an uncle wanted to see the car. He then asked me to start it up. I turned it over and since it was cold out and it had not run in awhile, I had to crank it due to a low battery. I heard him yell stop. He told me the thinner positive battery cable had started smoking. We touched it and the thinner positive battery cable wire was red hot. He told me that the smaller wire was most likely hooked up to the starter, and that the thicker wire is the one that should be hooked up to the starter. His thought was that usually the car pops right off for me when I start it. But when I have to crank it for awhile the thinner cable, which is hooked to the starter, gets hot because its not meant to handle the current. He told me to just swap the thicker positlve cable onto the starter and the thinner onto the firewall. Right now the thicker positve wire runs to the starter relay. Any suggestions? Response(s)

Question From: Pat Iurilli 2009-12-12
Question: Hi everyone, I have a question on decoding fender tags for a 1967 Mopar. I saw a response to a recent post to a question posed by Phil on
12/05/09, which recommended to go to the web site:
http://www.stockmopar.com/mopar-fender-tag-decoder.php. However, when I went to that web site,
to get fender tag information for my 1967 Plymouth GTX, the following message was displayed on that page: "This decoder will not decode 1966 - 1968 fender tags or cars made from the Lynch Road plant.
We have set up a service that will allow you to do this. If you are intersested here is the link: Mopar Fender Tag Decoding Service."
http://www.stockmopar.com/mopar-fender-tag-decoding-service.html
When I tried to go to that page, I got the following message: "Sorry, we have discountinued this service. We did not have the time needed to complete the orders. You can still use our free Mopar Fender Tag Decoder." So my question is:
Does anyone out there know where there is a fender tag decoder that can handle 1967 fender tags?
Thanks in advance, Pat. Response(s) http://www.mymopar.com/6268opcodes.htm it is a list of all of the codes you will just have to look them up by the number really easy to do good luck.
Question From: Pat Iurilli 2009-12-11
Question: Hi all, I have a question for you on a 1967 Plymouth GTX. I have heard that some 1967 Chrysler cars came with an AM/FM radio, although it is not listed as a factory option, even though it has a Chrysler part number on it, as they only came with an AM radio from the factory. I have been told that it was available as a dealer installed option,
and was listed in a dealer installed options catalog. I have heard that it came in a 1967 Plymouth GTX, as well as in a 1967 Dodge Coronet. 1) Can anyone confirm this information? 2) Does anyone know what the Chrysler part # is for it? 3) Can anyone recommend where to get a used AM/FM dealer installed radio option for my 1967 GTX? Question From: Kellie 2009-11-08
Question: Hey, my dad recently passed away and left me his old '69 RR. I've always wanted to learn about cars, but my dad never got the chance to teach me. I know some basics and would love to start restoring it. She's not in too bad of shape other than not being driven for about 20 yrs. Please let me know where to begin. Response(s) if its a whole car like im sure it is and you want the car to last for a few generations your going to want a good restoration. first youll need a garage that has some empty space and enough space to store stuff once you getting pulling things apart. make sure you label and take pictures of everything so you know where it goes and how it goes back together later. If you dont you might regret it. simply start but taking the motor and transmission out disasemble anything and everything you can body parts interior you name it and see what your going to need and replace it. Some parts you may have to buy used off the internet or junk yards. Now the fun begins find someone willing to restore the body look for a specialist in this field or you might get it back looking like waving flag in the wind meaning really crappy body work. Get it fix and painted and go from there. there is a ton of websites and books you can buy to help you.For your information a road runner can cost anywhere from 20,000 to about 60,000 to restore depending on what your going to do with the car. I just remembered once you get into the interior be careful when pulling the carpet out look for the build sheet or sheets to the car it could be under the carpet, under the front seat or rear seat also check under the dash by the glove box and its possible it could be on top of the gas tank Hi Kellie, You really need to decide your budget and level of financal commitment. You car may need a large infusion of cash or youmight get by tackling the project one bit at a time starting with getting the car running with working brakes and other options. Dont give up because somone quotes you a high restoration figure. I have restored a dozen cars over the years some on modest budgets and some larger scale and taking more time. The car I am working on now has been in the shop for about 2 years and I spend time and money as I can. This car has meaning to you and if you have the desire you will find the time and the funds. If I knew your situation and could see your project and knew what it needed I could be more helpful. I wish you the best, the 1969 RR is worth the effort, sorry about the loss of your dad.

Question: Heater fan switch Question. On my 72 Satellite, The A/C was removed. The blower fan blows out the dash vents in all speeds when the controls are on a/c vent but does not blow when I switch to defrost or heat. I know the vacuum control flaps work and change the direction of the air because when I'm driving and switch from vent to heat to defrost, the air changes movement to those locations and I can see the vacuum rods move below the dash. I just can't seem to get the fan to blow. Response(s)
Question From: Rick Miller 2009-11-02
Question: Hi, lucky recent to acquire, a quite presentable 69 #'s 4spd. unrestored/orig. With Galen Govier having a year + wait. Might anyone know how many Q5 seafoam metallic's were produced? Question From: Enrique Wanzo 2009-10-22
Question: Instructions for oil pan removal for a 69 Road Runner. Response(s) I use my motor hoist and lift the motor ,can't remember if i took out one or both motor mount bolts , the single long bolt , one per mount. Not that difficult to remove if you have the hoist. On my 69 roadrunner I jacked the front of the car off the ground, placed the jacks under the frame behind the front wheels, remove one end of the center link, move it out of the way and start removing the oil pan bolts. Don't forget to remove the oil first. It you do this on a car rack the front tires have to be free. Use safety first I like to use extra jacks under the K-frame. Speaking of that in the old days people would notch the k-frame so the pan would fall out. I don't recommed this. Hope this helps.

Question: Have a new SS gas tank for a 1974 Plymouth Satellite Sebring Plus. My original tank sending unit is a 5/16 with one single pick-up tube with a 90 degree bend. Every web site I've been on, shows one with a straight tube for my car. Is there any sending unit for any other b-body models that will work on my Satellite? Question: I am restoring a 68 RR and have a question. My passenger door has a hole, exactly where my drivers door has a hole for the remote mirror. Whats up with that, and what do I use to cover that hole? Also I'm in need of the drivers door exterior stainless trim that goes just below the window. I'll buy the whole set (quarter molding too). I'll buy the whole door if I have to! Response(s) You should post your needed trim/door in the classifieds page. Also, my 1970 also has this hole in the passenger door. I don't know why as my 1970 doesn't even have a passenger door mirror. Perhaps a prior owner installed a mirror at one time to my door and the same was done to your car.

Question From: Tony Schmid 2009-10-11
Question: Dose anyone have a answer for Clint on the reverse lights problem (Sept 20)? Thanks Response(s) I took a look at my 69 Rev lights and could not find his answer. I did see that the rev lights appear to depend on a common ground point to the frame. Maybe the ground is bad? I have my entire wiring harness removed from the car for restoration, and it appeared to be a simple "switch on the hot" circuit picked up off the steering column (I have an auto). Not sure if this helps, but if you want me to look at something else I can. Fire me an e-mail at randystuff at bellsouth dot net. My 69 is totally disassembled at the moment. Tony found his problem. Tranny has a three-pronged switch on it. The middle pin grounds the starter relay to allow the starter to work in park or neutral. The outer two pins short together when the shifter is moved to reverse. This closes the reverse light circuit. He replaced the switch and all is good. Randy

Question: Hi, I've a 1973 RR and want to know how to remove the pass side trim panel w/AC vent [3] at the dash. Can anyone help me with this please? Response(s)
Question From: Andy 2009-10-09
Question: Hi, I have two questions around my 69 Road Runner I need your help on. Some switches are not working properly (flasher, washer, dim switch). How do I remove the switch panel? Unscrewing the 4 screws works but the panel is nearly impossible to remove. It is stuck in behind the trim pad. Any ideas besides removing the trim pad? The instrument cluster is not illuminated and some lights are dead (high beam indicator, brake warning). I will be exhchanging the bulbs first but I didn't find the cluster illumination. Is the cluster removal necessary and if so, how do I do it? Thanks from Germany, A Response(s) You got it right you have to remove the trim pad first then take the panel of switches out.I would also replace the twist out bulbs first for the lighting problem , on my 68 the dimmer switch wheel was the problem of the cluster lights , had to roll up and down to find the spot that made them work then do not ever move it again. I concur, removal of the trim pad is necessary. For the cluster if you have small enough hands i think you could get to the bulbs, but I would take it out so that you don't accidentally crack your 40-year-old gauge cluster housing, they can be brittle. The screws are behind the switch panel and above into the upper dash. When you have it partially out you need to release the speedo cable and the circular pin connector from the back.
Question From: Don 2009-10-08

Question From: JERRY 2009-10-06
Question: My '69 Road Runner originally came equipped with a 4 speed tranny, but some where down the road someone installed a 727 auto tranny. I would like to put it back to a 4 speed. What is all involved in converting it back? Do I need to change the tranny cross member & get a new drive shaft due to any length difference. Also, is it recommended to go with a 18 spline over a 23 spline? The car still has its original 383 engine & clutch pedal set-up and the floor hump has not been modified from the original 4 speed hump, but the rear is tubbed out with a Ford 9". I am trying to get an idea of the total cost to convert it back. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Response(s) Jerry
www.brewersperformance.com has 4-speed conversion packages give them a try, they should be able to help you .
Question From: steve sandeman 2009-10-06
Question: I am working on a 66 Coronet, 440 auto convertible, needs axle seals. How can I tell which ring gear size the car has? Response(s) Do a search for mopar rear ends. I found a jpeg breakdown of an easy way to identify the axle style (axle spotters guide). From that, you can go to www.moparts.com and search for available ring sizes for your model and then from tags or serial numbers you should be able to figure it out. -Randy

I have a 69 Road Runner conv 4-spd car totally restored, the motor is original, but heavily modified internally, 4.31 bore 3.75 stroke brc crank roller rocker etc. My problem is my ol 3:91 suregrip totally blew to pcs. last week and I have been looking into ordering a Dana 60 35 spline Detroit locker rear end from Strange Engineering, but the only gear ratios are to drop to a 3:73 or up to a 4:10. The 3:91 was about perfect before. I do not do much hwy driving with it so I am kind of leaning towards the 4:10? Also I have BFG drag radials on it so it does hook up good, also wondering how the stock tranny will do? I think it is stock 23 spline? THANKS for any info. Steve Response(s) Steve,I also have a 69 bird. I had a 4-speed in it at one time and ran 4:10 gears its hard to tell any differance between a 3:91. I did run and still do a 3:55 from time to time. I never had any trouble with this trans. I sold it because the car is org. a automatic col. car.

Question: What other car can I get a "Z" bar for the clutch linkage in a 1973 Road Runner? Is the part sold new? Thanks! Response(s) I would call Stephens in Alabama. Look in any Mopar magazine for the phone number. Hope this helps Chris www.PGclassic.com has them new for $49.00 . Look under b-body transmission 66-74 b body 4 speed z-bar Thanks ! :)

Question: I've got a 69 Road Runner and the back-up lights dont work. I have hooked up the wiring harness to the neutral safety switch and to the starting block as specified by the wiring diagram. My question is where does the positive lead from the bulkhead wiring block from the lights go and how do the lights tie into the switch? Thanks Response(s)
Question From: Jim Jacoby 2009-09-20
Question: The May 2008 Hemmings Muscle Machines magazine did an article on the 69.5 Roadrunner. The owner claims only two W1 Alpine White M code Roadrunners in hard top 4 speeds were made. How can I receive official documentation for that? Chrysler archives claims no paint records were kept. Also, what oil should be used in the rebuild 440 since zinc and phosphorous levels have been reduced over the years?
Respectfully,
Jim Response(s) I cannot help on the paint codes.
For the Zinc, there are many manufacturers claims of additives you can add for flat tappet engine break-in. ZDDP additives are almost gone from modern oils. Do some research for an additive that you can put with a conventional oil. I have not had to use one yet so I can give specific experence on any one type. Jim, I have a little info on the ZDDP additvies. Penzoil racing oil still has sufficant levels of ZDDP. You can also purchase the additive from YearOne (and other resoration houses)as well as performance business such as JEGS that you simply add to your motor oil. I have used the Year One additive for a couple of years and I have had no oil related problems.

Question: I have a 1969 GTX Hemi 4-speed. The tranny and bell housing were painted Hemi orange when I got the car. Is that authentic or incorrect? Thank-you Response(s) I know the motor is correct im not sure about the trans i think its correct The bell housing is normally the engine color but I have seen some grey or black. The transmission should be a natural cast iron appearence. There are several resotration houses that have the grey cast spray paint.

Question: I have a 72 Satelitte and I want to know if I can convert it to a Road Runner or GTX and where do I go to do that? What books or site do I go to? Response(s) of couse you can but to say where to go to find what you need is impossible you just have to look around on sites. what all do you want to know? check out pictures of road runners ask questions and you will get what you need in 72 there was no GTX wait GTX was a option for a 72 road runner they were both road runners and GTX's that had both logos a little over 600 were made
Question From: JERRY 2009-09-08
Question: How do I remove the dash lens from my '69 RR? Response(s) Jerry, I restored my entire dash on my 68 Runner. You will need to remove the switch panel that houses your headlight, wiper, etc. switches. You may need to drop the steering column slightly to get it out. You can then get to the screws that hold the speedometer assembly and gauge assembly in the dash. The lens cover can then be un-screwed from the speedo housing. If your lens is just dull or scratched, you can take a good polish like semi-chrome, mix a little with a good wax and buff the lens. After several treatments, mine came out looking like new. Hope this helps.

Question From: mark 2009-09-06
Question: Hello, I have a 69 Road Runner, 383/335hp, 4spd car, which has attempted to be de-tuned by the prev owner. What I do know is that it has purple perf cam, they removed a perf carb and replaced it with a stock 440 carb, stock exhaust manifolds, not sure what else. I know I'm not getting all the hp I'm suppose to. I thought I would start at the carb and try Edelbrock performer. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance, Mark. Response(s) Don't waist your money, get the holley street avenger instead , go to holley.com for the correct size for your car.How do I know this, because I waisted my money on one! With a Purple Shaft cam of 280 degrees or better I'd probably go Holley as well but the Edelbrock Thunder AVS 800 is interesting. You'll be able to do a better job of fine tuning with the Holley IMO though.
If the Cam is a Purple Shaft "road runner" cam (268/284 .450"/.455" lift) I'd go with a Thunder AVS 650 or Holley 650 dual feed, vacuum secondary carb. What intake are you running - stock or aluminum aftermarket? If you want max horsepower then headers are the way to go. I recommend tti because they install very easily and fit well but they are very expensive. Email me and I can help you out with the setup. I have a hotted up 383 as well in my 69 4 speed bird. mcmopar@aol.com
John thanks guys for the response,i believe the holley street avenger 670 is the one i want, i think the guy i bought it from had alum intake, headers, diff carb, 4:10 rear and he then de-tuned it with stock intake, stock 440 carb, stock exhaust manifolds, new rear 3:73, so as you can see, its not all meshing, however it runs really good, just not as quick or torqey as it should be, i want to keep it stock so thought i might try new carb, any ideas thanks mark Good choice for your carb , you will not regret it. I have very simular set up two things i can suggest is i have tried three different cams and the original road runner cam has been the best for me.The other is the 3.73 gears they are good for around town not for highway .They are what i am using with 14x70 tires if you want more torque try 14x60 tires that should put close to 3.90 gears.
Question From: Frank Vincent 2009-09-04
Question: How do I remove the old quarter glass vertical seals on my 1972 Satellite 2 door hardtop so I can replace with new seals? They are wedged in between crome edge moulding on the front edge of the rear side glass. Response(s) Hardtop or Coupe?
On the hardtop they should be just puttied or double-taped inside and are pulled out of the channel. I assume you mean to change the "rubbers". I was successful. I started to pull the rubbers down to replace and the crome edge mouldings also pulled off the glass edge. no problem. I slid out the old rubber and coated the track with soapy water. (silicone would have worked)and slid the new rubbers back in. Then, carefully slid the crome back onto the glass edge with soapy water. did not use adhesive, but all seems to be pretty tight. Thanks.

Question: Did the 1972 Road Runner coupe 400 cid come with a Carter thermo quad carb? And, if it did, what size or part number was it? Thanks much. Jeff Response(s) i am pretty sure the original carb was a carter what size i dont remember Carter ThermoQuad, 650 cfm.
Question From: Greg Hendron 2009-09-04
Question: I want to install a set of hood pins on my 69 Road Runner. Does anyone off hand know the correct placement for the holes to be drilled? Also, are there any nifty tricks that would make the install quick and easy? Response(s) There is no correct position, as hood pins were not a factory option, except on the A-12 cars. The hood pin posts install in place of the rubber topped hood bumpers. You could install the pin posts and then use some kind of marker dye or other material the would leave a mark on the under side of the hood as you gently lower the hood down in place over them. You'll have to be careful and take some measurements as well but you should be able to get the dimensions you need if you are methodical and careful.

Question From: Zach8200@charter.net 2009-09-03
Question: Where can I find out all the information out on my 72 Road Runner? How many were made of that color and engine, specs and so on... Response(s) Zach, his name is Galen Govier and his web site is http://www.gvgovier.com/. He's the Mopar production numbers guy, but he has a busy schedule and may take some time to get back to you. Search the internet. You will be amazed what data you can find, posted at many forums, by some very knowledgeable gear heads. I have a 68 Road Runner and have nearly assembled an entire book on it, all with search engines, included a complete de-code of the fender tag. On the tougher questions I have to turn to Govier, like most everyone else. I am on month four of a possible 1-2 year wait.

Question From: brian bloom 2009-08-31
Question: Hi, I have a set of heads, refresh my memory I think they are 69 440 six pack heads. Casting #s
07019 date I think? 2843906-5 casting. Thanks for your help, Brian. Response(s) That casting # is for a 383-440,68-70. All the '69 big block heads were the same and were known as "906" castings. The only difference between a 383 2bbl head and a 440 6BBL head was in the valve springs. The 440 6 BBL springs were stiffer to handle the beefier cam. Otherwise the castings are all the same.
Question From: Paul Fields 2009-08-31
Question: I just bought my first project car, 74 RR. What size wheels came on it originally? It has what I think are "magnum" wheels that are for a Ford. Want to know my options on new rims? Thanks Paul Response(s) I believe 14" wheels were standard. The "magnum" Ford wheels you refer to were actually a factory mopar wheel as well. They were known as "Styled Steel Road Wheels" and were available as an option.

Question From: Ed 2009-08-27
Question: Can anyone explain in layman terms how to find the pinion angle for a street not race car with 8.75 diff and a 489 case it has a 4 speed trans? I have read that it needs to be set at 5 to 7 degrees, and I have read that a 1/4 to 3/4 of a degree down, which of these is correct for a street car? Thanks Response(s) Ed, The simplist way is to get a angle dial protractor that many race shops have/sell/borrow. With the car setting on level groud, roll the car so one of the pinon/driveshaft u-bolt bosses is pointing toward the floorboard, place the protractor on the rearend pinon shaft where the driveshaft connects. You can read the pinon angle direct from the gauge. A minus 4 degrees means the pinon is pointing down from the horizontal by 4 degrees. Correct/adjust with tapered shims between the leaf spings and the rearend mounts.

Question: I had a "pro" take the rear window out of my 69 Road Runner so I could repair a hole the lower channel. I replaced the molding clips with new ones. The problem is the moldings won't stay in place. Can someone tell me how to correctly install these clips? Thanks Response(s) What do you mean, they won't stay in place? Do you have the clips installed correctly? You have to use your fist and really hit them to get them on the clips securely. Are the clips screwed in tight? Did you note how they were in the channel before removing them. They only go in one way to work.
Question From: Chris Ryan 2009-08-15
Question: Does anyone know who makes reproduction door decals 1970 Road Runner, VIN and Build date tag drivers door jamb? Thanks. Response(s) You can get the bird decals from Year One (www.yearone.com) or The Paddock (www.paddockparts.com). Not sure about the VIN and build date tags. VIN tags are mounted up under the windshield on the driver's side - at least that's where they are on '69's. Usually the tire inflation stickers are in the driver's door jamb. If that is what you need YO and The Paddock can help out there, too.

Question: Hi I have a 68 Road Runner. It's RH21H8A on my build sheet I have codes 674 and 677. I cant find what they mean. Someone told told me they were export codes. If my car is an export car, What differnces are there? Thanks Response(s) Your car is not a Roadrunner. It would begin with RM not RH. Roadrunners were a medium price class car not high price like your pillared Belvedere would suggest. I'll look into the 674, 677 codes. Does your car have the 383 4 bbl in it?

Question From: steve 2009-08-09
Question: I have 1972 Plymouth Satellite Sebring Plus with 400 in it. I am having charging problems. The things I have replaced so far are new alternator, voltage regulator, starter relay. Battery is good. The problem is the alternator is not charging the battery. I regrounded everything, made sure all connections were tight. I bypassed the ammeter. I have a voltmeter wired up, and when the engine is running, it reads about 10 to 12 volts, but when you turn on any accessorie like headlights or heater blower, the volts drop down to somewhere around 2 volts. I checked bulkhead connections and are all clean. Another problem I have is the ignition switch. Sometimes when I go to start it, it does nothing, no click or anything. I have to cross the starter relay to start it. But sometimes the ignition switch starts right up. This has been an intermittent problem for a couple of years now, but had no effect on the charging system. My question is could the ignition switch problem now be causing my undercharging problem? Response(s) GIVE IT TOO YOUR GIRLFRIEND... Hmm. Your best bet is to divide and conquer. If you get it running and the battery drops, I would start by slowly disconnecting all loads. maybe pull fuses to eleminate loads, but I would start with the alternator. I would pull the alternator and check the field wiring and diodes. Maybe just rebuild it and make sure you aren't getting a diode that operates normally until it starts drawing power it breaks over and allows a draw to ground. Personally, if it was my car I would replace the ignition switch first. Then rebuild the alternator. After that, see where you stand. Are you sure that it drops to 2 volts with just accessories? That is a very large draw. First things first, you say the battery is good, how did you check it? A load test would show a bad cell or high sulphate build up. An autozone type test may not catch that unless the abttery is removed from the vehicle. Step 1 would be to remove the battery and test seperate. Step 2 would be to ensure the positive and negative cables are not corroded or have loose connections. This is steve again, I just wanted to add a couple of things. First off, the battery will take a charge, When it is dead, I use a battery charger to boost it and when the charger is hooked up, the voltmeter reads about 13 or 14 volts like it is supposed to and when I put a load on it, it drops slightly then jumps back up to where it is supposed to be. So, it seems the regulator is working. Keep in mind that this is what happens when the battery charger is still hooked up and the car running. It seems everything is working as it should. But as soon as you disconnect the charger, the same problem happens. It drops down to 10 or 12 volts and drops even farther the longer the car runs, and of course, drops way down when you turn any accessories on. I had the battery tested in the car with engine off and they said the battery was a little low on charge, of course, since it is not being charged while the car is running, but they said the battery was good and the alternator was retested and checked out fine. Seems to me that something is not letting the alternator charge the battery. The voltage regulator is new. I even disconnected the main wire from the alternator, ran a new piece of wire straight from the main lug of the alternator to the battery and it still will not charge. There are 2 field wires on the alternator, one runs to one lug on the voltage regulator and the other one runs to the other lug of the regulator but piggybacks and runs to the ignition switch, too. That is why I asked before about the ignition switch possibly being bad because it does act up from time to time. I do know this, when I disconnect either of the field wires from the alternator, it does not change the way the alternator charges, and I know that it should. So, if one of the field wires,(the one that goes to the regulator and then jumps off to the ignition switch), is getting a bad connection at the switch or the switch is bad, could it be the switch that is causing all these problems? Somebody else surely has had this problem, being as mopar electrical systems always cause problems at one time or another. I would know because I am a die hard mopar man and have had several over the years, and have always been able to solve these electrical issues, but this one I just cannot figure out. PLEASE HELP! maybe try a replacement of the ignition switch , if yours uses a ballast resistor maybe try replacing it to. Steve do you have a four plug resistor or two plug? You should also have two one wire connectors on the back of your altenator, one ties in with the resistor and other goes (or went to the ammeter or voltmeter) both should be hot on run. You didn't mention if this was electronic ign. or points. I had all kind of probs with mine 72 Challenger, and got rid of all the extra wires and went with a GM alt( internal reg.) Check te two wiresa at the back of the alt to make sure they have power.
Question From: Dennis 2009-08-08
Question: Hello, I would like to know what was the original carb (make & model #)used on the 1970 383 Road Runner 4bbl with 4spd. Thank you! Response(s) Hi Dennis
According to NHRA's website the carb is a Holley 4367 or 4217.
Question From: Kyle 2009-08-06
Question: How do you static time the electric ignition of a 74 Plymouth Road Runner 6.6? I understand that for the most part the procedure is identical with the electric ignition rather than points or others, but I don't know where I should atach my test light with the electric ignition. Any help would be great I can't find this info at all and I have googled, and etc. it multiple times. Thanks Response(s) To check the timing you need an inductive timing light. One lead attaches to the battery positive post, one lead goes to a solid ground and the inductive pickup is attached to the No. 1 spark plug wire. Set timing as you normally would by rotating the distributor. Perhaps I misunderstood the question. I see you mentioned static timing. Sorry. Yeah the timing got really messed up while i replaced the distributor, the engine got cranked while it was out. And my engine no longer has a degree scale(looks like it was once there but no longer). The car ran before i replased it. Take driver side valve cover off , take number one spark plug out, turn engine over watch the rocker arms above number one cylinder ,hold finger over spark plug hole when air is forced out take note of which rocker arm moves first , when the exhaust rocker moves this is just past top dead center of number one post on the distributor cap , alot of caps have the number one stamped beside the number one post to help locate it.The rotor button should be just past the number one post at this point take notice of rotation of rotor button when running the plug wires i believe its counter clock wise for your engine. If you can remember which way the vacuum advance was pointing when it was in the engine this should put you close enough to get it started then move the distributor back and forth to fine tune the idol.

Question: I am restoring a 1968 GTX. I am installing the gas tank and I have a question on the gas vapor line. Does the main line go into the gas pick-up unit? Also, where do the lines from the trunk go? Does anyone know of a good instruction manual for restoring a 68 GTX? I took it apart about 7 years ago and am having trouble remembering how to put it back together. Thanks for any help!!! Response(s) Hi John - I'd recommend a shop manual. You can get shop manuals for just about any car on CD. Just do a web search for "shop manuals on CD" and you should find exactly what you are looking for.
Question From: Jeff 2009-07-30
Question: I am restoring a '69 Road Runner that is saddle bronze with a tan top and 2-tone saddle interior. Have tried to look for pics online of that combination & have been unsuccessful except for one site with one for sale but it was a bare bones model. Is this a rare combo?? Can you recommend somewhere I can find pics with that combo that would be helpful in my resto? Response(s) Hi Jeff
Whne you say the car is saddle bronze which color code is it - T3, T5 or T7? I knew a guy years ago in St. Cloud, FL who had a T7 bronze road runner with the saddle tan interior, T7 upper door paint code, a tan vinyl top, 383, auto on the column and non-power drum brakes. It was a beauty. Its not a very common color combo that is for sure.
The saddle tan interior seat upholstery and door panels can be obtained from Legendary Auto Interiors and if you have headrests or a dash pad or any other interior part that needs to be redyed to original color you can contact Not Just Headrests (http://notjustheadrests.com/) and they can do the job for you. I had them refurbish my headrests and they look fantastic.

Question: What finish is the hood stripe on the 1970 Road Runner? Response(s) Hi Ken
The hood stripe on the '70 road runner is a flat black vinyl decal (actually possibly 3 decals). You can get the stripe kit from The Paddock (www.paddockparts.com), Year One (www.yearone.com) or Phoenix Graphix (www.PhoenixGraphix.com) to name just a few vendors.

Question: I have a 69 rr coupe with post, it has the pop out windows. I have had this apart for 12 years and the body shop lost some parts. I am wondering is there a trim piece that goes between the top of the rear window and the body? I know the front window has a trim piece the window seal goes into to. Response(s) Rich: I have a 69 coupe. My pop-out window glass has a trim ring on the glass. The lower portion has a metal trim piece that ends just after the corner bend. It blends into the roof rail but does not continue. Search the web for RR pictures and you will find it.
Question From: Dan 2009-07-22
Question: Can anyone supply info about, or offer reference sources for, the following? What is the date of the first Road Runner production vehicles to roll of the line? Is there a record of quantity of the 1968 production, by both month and assembly plant? Is it a different start date for each of the 3 assembly plants (Lynch, St. Louis, LA) or did they all start simultaneously? On the fender tag what does the shipping order number signify? (the tag in question is a 1968 Road Runner, SO# 900505, what does 900505 mean?) On the fender tag are the codes Y9 (special order) and 999 (special paint). Unfortunately, there is no broadcast sheet. Is there anyway to know the dealer for the Y9 (can’t locate previous owners) and anyway to know the original paint (besides the physical inspection)? Thank you for any assistance, Dan.
Response(s) Dan, your best bet is to contact Galen Govier at http://www.gvgovier.com/ He's got a busy schedule and it might take some time for him to respond, but he's the guy with all the production information to answer these questions. Thank you for the input. I've contacted Galen Govier for advice. But the response is that they are one year behind. I'll keep digging.
Question From: Gene Sloot 2009-07-20
Question: 1970 383 RR 4 spd part# 7186 elderbrock perf. rpm intake with holley 750 dp. I have troubles with the throttle linkage being to stiff...is their way to make it more easy and smooth on my foot? Response(s) Hi Gene
I just installed an 850DP on my Perf. RPM intake and was having the same issue as you are having. I grabbed the WD-40 off the shelf and squirted it into all the throttle shaft/throttle base areas (while the carb was off the car) and it has really helped. You can still do it with the carb on the car - just put a rag under the areas before you give it a squirt. Lube all the moving throttle parts. I even gave it a shot inside the carb at each point where the throttle shafts pass through the base. Give it a try and see if it helps.
Question From: Randy G 2009-07-20
Question: 69 RR coupe. I have a repalcement hardtop (complete) for tree blowdown damage. Anything I need to do to make the swap from coupe to hardtop besides b-pillar loss and all the window issues? Also, what would be the best source for a potential ragtop conversion info? What donor car would make a workable match for extremely rare GTX/RR Convertible? Response(s) all i have to say is get a pro to do it chopping a top and putting a new one in is not as easy as it looks if your car isnt square you will have a big mess on your hands and as far as turning into a rag top it can be done but i wouldnt mess with it unless you have allot of money to blow Thanks. I have done convertible restorations before and know how to properly weld-in braces and ensure the tub stays in place as bodywork is done. I know its not an easy task, but I will be doing the work myself no matter what. I am just concerned about the difference between hardtop and coupe, I may miss something so I am opening it up for comment. As for making a ragtop, I prefer a donor car that I can use to ensure the stock bracing methods are duplicated. So a similiar uni-body model that was more common (coronet/satellite/dodge) that I may find would be helpful. Thanks for the response. as far as I know your road runners, gtx and satellites are all the same sebring i believe is the same not 100% the difference as far as coupe and hard top for a road runner a coupe all the windows roll down front and back the hard top the rear window pushed out thats the only difference i know Clarification: Coupe has the B pillar and has the pop-out windows. The hardtop has no b-pillar and all 4 windows roll down. Your post suggests the reverse.

Question: Today while replacing the distributer cap some of the spark plug wires came off the cap. I do not know where the wires are supposed to go for the correct timing. Does anyone know where each cylinder's sparg plug wire is supposed to go on the distributer cap? Response(s) Kyle, tip for next time is you should take some masking tape and label the wires before removing the old cap and then you are covered if some pop off before you get to move them to the new cap. However, to help you now, we will need to know which engine you have. Then, I could supply a diagram for you to follow. Ed - RoadRunnerSite.com Sounds like you need to invest in a shop manual , yearone has them for your car and they are full of info. there also could be another issue. your intermedidiate gear could be off a gear(under your distibuter) it is off on my car so the fireing order is off by one. Kyle, The distributor cap sequence is the same as the firing order. 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2. The number 1 plug wire should be beside the distributor cap clip next to the engine (lower side) and should go to the first (front) spark plug on the driver side. The engine plug sequence is 1-3-5-7 on the driver side, 2-4-6-8 on the passenger side, front to rear. The distributor turns counter clockwise. So, the first plug wire at the cap clip should go to the first (front) plug on the driver side. The next cap wire going counter-clockwise should go the the number 8 cylinder, the back cylinder on the passenger side. The next wire should go to the number 4 cylinder, the second plug from the front on the passenger side and so on. Hope this helps. In addition to the answer above, I am assuming your engine is either a 383 or 440. Both are the same sequence.

Question From: Collin 2009-07-14
Question: Ok I am trying to figure out my wheels for my 69 RR. On the build sheet it has the wheels in two different sections. Under Basic Car section 2 it lists Tires - T82. Then Section 4 Wheel 16X9. Now this would lead me to believe that the wheels were painted black? Now on the bottom under Section 10 W WH/COV...Covers are 11, Wheels are 25. W25 = HD stamped wheels 69-71. Are these different than the stock stamped steel wheels? Response(s) Hi Colin
You are correct in reference to the X9 code. The color is Black Velvet. What is the color code for the car? Just curious.
The 16 code number indicates 14"x5.5" wheels.
The T82 code is the code for White Streak (white sidewall) F70x14" tires.
The 11 code is W11 and stands for Deluxe Wheel Covers. These wheel covers cover the entire wheel which is probably why the wheels were painted black. Usually the wheels were painted body color if the car was ordered with the standard "Plymouth Division" dog dish hub caps.
The 25 is W25 and stands for Heavy Duty Stamped Wheels. These are the stock wheels used on the 1969 road runner 383. The HEMI and 440 cars usually received 15" diameter heavy duty stamped wheels. The cars color code is T7. Thats why I thought it was interesting the wheels were black. Where could I find the deluxe wheel covers? (hit submit by accident)....Its a T7 4 speed console car, N96 that I am trying to build according to the build sheet. The front wheels are old crappy cragar knock offs, but the rear wheels are black and have 25 stamped next to the valve stem, leading me to believe that those are the right wheels. Dont know if I have seen a RR with wheel covers that covered the whole wheel...used to seeing either steelies, plymouth division or magnums...thanks for the response I love the T7 color. Mine is F8 with the T7 interior.
As to finding a set of Deluxe wheel covers, your best bet might be ebay. I found a set of the Sport 14" covers a few years back on ebay but sold them about 3 years ago. You'll have to do some scrounging to find a decent set as I do not believe they are being reproduced. Check at swap meets, too. If you are going to the Nationals this year you might find a set there but be prepared to pay some good $$$ for them. Forgot to mention - if you need to see some images of the full wheel covers, (Deep Dish, Sport and Deluxe) drop me a line and I'll send you a pdf or tiff file. Mcmopar@aol.com (John).

Question: Looking for answer to question about 70 rr safety switch on 4 sp clutch. Response(s) Wire goes from clutch safety switch, thru firewall, then to starter relay. When clutch is depressed, circuit is closed and starter engages. I assume you are talking about the neutral safety switch? It works by grounding the starter through the relay that is mounted on the engine side of the firewall. There should be 2 push on terminals on the relay. The yellow (probably the slanted terminal) is the ignition and the other should be the ground for the neutral safety switch. You can bypass it by just grounding the neutrasl safety switch terminal. You can put a contact switch under your dash to provide the ground. Just hol;d it in when you go to start and release after started. Remember, be careful because now car will start in any gear. Question From: Gary 2009-07-05
Question: I have a 1971 Road Runner Originally had a bench seat 3 speed, now has bucket seats and 4 speed non console. My question is I want to install a console, what are the different parts needed for a conole 4 speed compared to a non-console 4-speed and where can I purchase them? Thanks Response(s) I have a console car and I believe the only difference are the brackets on the transmission tunnel that hold the console down. You also need the console with all of its pieces. Also the Hurst shifter handle was shaped differently for a console car. You would also need to wire the car for the lights that are on the side of the console.
Question From: Ed 2009-07-02
Question: Just replaced my bearings and rings on my 1970 Road Runner 440. My question is why does the oil pressure drop from 65 psi to 35 psi when the rpms get over 2900 but comes back to 65psi when rpm drops below 2800 rpm. I have a high volume oil pump and the hemi 6 quart oil pan. Wondering if the oil intake is sucking air at the higher rpm? Thanks for any input. Response(s) Ed, A couple of things come to mind. First, your bearing oil clearances should be ok because at lower rpm the pressure is good. The 6 quart Hemi pan is a little deeper than the stock 5 quart. The oil pickup tube may be off the bottom of the pan to much. Running the double oil pan gasket with a windage tray makes things even worse. You will need to remove the pan and measure from the block oil pan rail to the bottem of the pickup tube. Then measure from the gasket surface of the oil pan to the bottom of the pan and subtract to get your clearance. I like to keep my pickups about 1/8" off the bottom. You can also use a small ball of clay on the bottom of the pickup tube, install the pan and gaskets/windage tray, tighten slightly and remove. Measure the thickness/compression of the clay for your clearance between the pickup tube and pan. I suspect you will be off the bottom 1/4 to 1/2 inch. You can CAREFULLY bend the pickup tube to get closer to the correct clearance. DO NOT bend enough to crack the pickup tube. Hope this helps. Ed, Just thought of a simple way to test before taking the pan off. Add an additional quart of oil temporaraly to your engine a drive it in the rpm range of the problem. If the pressure stays up then the pickup tube is getting uncovered too much. Drain out the extra quart of oil when testing is over. Thanks for the advise . Tried the extra quart with no success , still has the same problem , someone said the relief spring could be bad but i put old stock oil pump back on and it did the same thing. I think it might be the cheap oil pressure guage that i'm using , think i might upgrade it next.

Question: I have a 1969 Road Runner that has been totally frame off restored, but the people lost the protectoplate when they did the firewall and I can't find it no more. How can I find another one to match the car. The VIN numbers do match the car it's a real Road Runner. I need help. 770-882-6400 The paint code is the real color before they paint the car that's how we match the paint. Please respond. Ty Response(s) Mopar didn't put their code tags on the firewall. They put them on the left front fender well and called them fender tags. It should be near the battery above the left front tire if you look under the hood of the car. This will have your paint code on it. Is this the tag that is missing? 1969 (or any other year) Road Runners didn't have a seperate frame (unibody) nor did they come with protectoplates.

Question From: ed woodruff 2009-06-19
Question: Does someone know how to drive the pin out of the knuckle that holds the end of the steering column??? Thanks, Ed Response(s) I think you should use a flat end punch thats just a little smaller than the hole size but not smaller than the pin . Ed, a flat nose pumch works well as described in the first response. Be sure to pick a punch that will fit INTO the hole but as close to the pin diameter as possible. It can be hard to get started and you will need to be able to get a good direct hit with a ball peen hammer to get it started. Continue to drive the pin until it drops out. It is about an inch long so pick your punch to allow for this length.

Question: What colors are the bell housing and trany 4 sp for a 383 Road Runner? Response(s) The transmission case should be painted dark cast-iron gray and the cover with a clear coat to simulate the original cast look. The bell housing was typically the turquoise engine color for the 68's and the orange magnum color for the 69's. Transmission was cast iron grey in color.

Question: I have a 69 Road Runner with front disc dual pistons, where can I find rebuild kits for this? Response(s) Hi Richard. You can buy rebuilt calipers at www.calipersonline.com. I got mine there back in '03 and they are still performing perfectly. If you desire to keep your own calipers they can rebuild them and re-sleeve them for you if necessary - even if the calipers have been previously sleeved. This is the best place to go IMO.

Question: I just got a 1970 Road Runner post car 4 speed with a/c it has 440 in it but it had 383. I have look to see what I have here and can not find it. I have seen 383 auto, post. I have seen 383 4 speed with no a/c the post cars. Those I see for sale say rare. I know when a car is for sale people say stuff. Just need to know what I have here the VIN RM21N0G...... Car is not for sale. Response(s) The VIN shows:
R = Belvedere/Satellite (Road Runners were built on the Belvedere platform while GTX's were built on the Satellite platform. Belvedere was a lower priced model; Satellite featured nicer interior appointments and upgraded trim).
M = (among other models) Road Runner 1968-1974.
21 = 2 door sedan (post w/pop out rear windows). The hardtop (coupe) - with roll down rear windows has a number code of 23, while the convertible code was 27).
N = 383 c.i.d./330hp or 335hp (1970). Being that your car is equipped with a/c it would have been equipped with the 330hp 383 c.i.d. engine. Non-a/c cars were equipped with the 335hp 383 c.i.d. engine.
0 = 1970
G = St. Louis, MO assembly plant.
Sounds like a nice car. Not too many were equipped with a/c and a 4 speed trans. Mine is a '69 runner coupe with 4 speed and a/c. Its cool to see a 4 speed & a/c equipped road runner - of any year! Congrats on your find.
Question From: Collin 2009-06-11
Question: I just decoded the build sheet for my 69 RR. It is a 383 4 spd center console car. The sheet says it came with a hemi suspension and stamped wheels. Is this common for a 383?? I thought those were for the 440 cars and above. Are these stamped wheels the steelies? S15....Hemi XHD susp/w/frt sw
W25....HD stamped wheels 69-71 Response(s) The stamped wheels in 14"x5.5" size were standard equipment in '69. They usually came painted body color with small hubcaps which were stamped with the words PLYMOUTH DIVISION on them. If they are 15" dia. they were an option upgrade.
The Hemi suspension was also an optional upgrade. The standard 383 suspension used smaller diameter torsion bars and fewer rear leaf springs. What brakes did your car come equipped with? Just curious as my '69 rr was equipped with the optional Hemi suspension, 14" stamped HD wheels, PLYMOUTH DIVISION hubcaps and optional power disc/rear drum setup by Bendix. You could get standard drum, optional power drum and optional power disc brakes. Mine came with the 11" 4 wheel drum brakes, no power brakes Thanks for the answer! I am finding out more and more about this car. '69 lynch road car, T7 paint, 4 spd console car, hemi suspension, hd stamped wheels, manual brakes, manual steering, 3.91 axle package...just removed and cleaned the rear end today, turns out it still has the green stripe on the axle and two spots of yellow pain from the factory! Inquired about new leaf springs, the hemi suspension leaf springs were listed at $700 each!! Looks like I am going to restore the ones I have! That's a ridiculous for the springs. I replaced my originals with the Mopar Performance HD springs (for Hemi and 440 cars). I got them from Summit for about $230 If I remember correctly. They are the same as the originals. If you are looking for strict originality you can have your original springs re-arched. If not, the Mopar Performance set will do very nicely. I just re-checked the price and it seems they've gone up a bit from the time I bought them. They are a little over $200 each but if you buy both (set) you'll get a discount at Mancini Racing (www.manciniracing.com). Also check with Jeg's and Summit Racing as they stock them as well.
Question From: ed woodruff 2009-06-11
Question: I need a brake line lay out for a 1970 Road Runner, any help out there. Thanks, Ed Response(s) Hi Ed. A lot depends on what type of brakes your car has. The brake line layouts are different for manual drum, power drum and power disc brakes due to the master cylinder layout. My '69 has power disc and when I went to Fine Lines to get replacements they didn't fit. I called and they sent me another set - still no go. I sent them pics and they said they didn't have anything like mine so they asked me to send them my old ones so they could use them as a pattern in making a replacement set for me. They did a really nice job duplicating my originals.
If you have your originals make sure the new ones you get match up to them. If not, you'll need to find another '70 RR equipped with the same brake package as yours to look at and take pics of.

Anybody with the original location to send a photo would be cool. Thanks, Joe Response(s) Thanks for nothing! Joe, I can take a photo of mine and do some measurements for you, but I have a 1970 Road Runner. I'm not sure if they are in the same place on a 1969. I'm not sure either thanks though. Joe
Question From: Collin 2009-06-08
Question: I am restoring a '69 Lynch Road 383 4-speed bucket and console car. Doing my research have not found too many of these console 4-speeds around, anyone know how many were made? I was also told that my T7 color was rare. Do these two options together make my car a rare one, or have I just not seen whats out there. Thanks. Response(s) I know of a few T7 Bronze cars out there that are 4 speeds - even a 6 BBL car. The console is a nice option to have, though. Since the Road Runner was built at more than one assembly plant (5 different plants I believe) it would be difficult to ascertain how many were painted T7. THe only person I know of that might have some info for you is Galen Govier. He may charge you a small fee for his research but its worth it IMO.
You can contact him at http://www.gvgovier.com/.
BTW - a T7 Road Runner with a 4 speed and console is a nice find. Well done!

Question From: Greg Hendron 2009-06-01
Question: I have a 69 Road Runner and I'm currently running some big Mickey Thompson Indy Profile 50's on the rear. Needless to say I have the rear air shocks up to nearly max inflation to clear these babies. My question is this. Back in the day when I owned my first runner there were nice metal heavy duty shock extensions for my Mopar. This allowed me to take the burden off the shocks and keep the air pressure relatively low. Does anybody know of a company that still makes em or would leafspring shackles do the same job? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Just want to let some air out of my shocks, but want to keep that bad Pro street appearance. Thanks Greg Response(s) Hi what I did to solve that problem was weld my spring perches to the top of the rear end shoot me a email I'll send you some pics
Question From: Kevin 2009-05-28
Question: Where can I find a step by step instructions to rebuild the posi on my 69? Response(s)
I found this post on another forum:
"Call Doctor Diff and get the good sleeve eliminator kit from him. It's the best $30 you can spend on a 489 case unit. He also has shim kits for rebuilding a cone sure grip."
You can reach Doctor Diff at 406-883-4772 (10-6 Mountain time) or doctordiff@gmail.com. He should be able to help you out.
Question From: patchypup 2009-05-28
Question: I am trying to put on the rubber piece that goes between the trunk and the bumber. It has the long middle section and then a piece on each end. It has no cracks. First, I would like to paint it p\black. I was given an adhesive to spray on it so paint would stick but any suggestions what kind of paint to get? The other question is, does the straight piece glue on or what? I do not see any holes. Thanks Response(s) You also asked about getting old documentation for your 1973 Road Runner and my suggestion there is to try eBay. There's always old documentation for sale by somebody. Otherwise, do some web searches for images on Google and use search words like Road Runner and Plymouth and 1973 and you could find something that was scanned as an image you can download. Is this piece you asking about for a 1973 Road Runner? Yes the piece came on the Roadrunner. It is expensive and hard to find but mine came off it and was in a box. try www.trimlok.com. this guy has instructions on how to remanufacture this piece. Im sure he can assist you on how they were actually attached.

Question: I just bought a 74 Road Runner 318 3 speed car but does not have a fender tag or build sheet that we can find. I was told it was a Mickey Thompson 318 3 speed car. Do you know if there was ever such a 74 Road Runner made? Also are there any other numbers or anything on the car that might prove this? Thanks for any help you can give me. Response(s)

Question From: Rob 2009-05-24
Question: Anybody know for sure if a 69 GTX would be factory correct with a pistol grip shifter? Response(s) The Pistol Grip shifter was not introduced until the 1970 model year. 1969 4-speed cars used a simulated wood ball shifter "handle" made of plastic with the shift pattern etched into it.
If you are going for strict originality then do not use the Pistol Grip, however, if you like it and want to use it in your car then that is entirely up to you.
Question From: Phil Rigelman 2009-05-23
Question: I have a '69 RR and am adding the air grabber stuff to the hood. I know the insert screens were painted red but I don't know what color the two pieces of angle steel used to hold it inside the housing are supposed to be? I thought they were black (same as the stripes on the hood), but I just saw a car at a show and the guy was supposedly the original owner and claims they were red (same as the screens) on his car. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Response(s) Are you talking about what color the scoops are suppose to be? The scoops are painted the body color if you don't have the V21 hood stripe option. If you have the hood stripes then they are painted the flat black as in the hood stripe templete on this site. Joe
ALL THE PICTURES IS SEE WITH THE BLACK HOOD STRIPES HAD RED SCREENS WITH THE RETAINGING BARS ALSO RED

Response(s) As I recall 71 and 72 flashers are clipped to the cigarette Lighter receptacle on the side, between the glove box and ash tray.
Question From: Greg Hendron 2009-05-18
Question: Would like to know what the best aluminum intake manifold is for a 383 HP currently have a stock HP manifold with a Eddlebrock performer. Thinking of goin to the 770 cfm Holley street avenger and a different manifold. Already have a cam and stainless headers. Car runs good but coughs a little when being driven while warming up. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Response(s) Check out this HotRod.com article
it is a comparison of all popular intakes for the 383 Mopar engine. Among the dual plane intakes the Edelbrock Performer RPM seems to be the consensus choice from many articles and reviews I've read. The only problem with this intake is that you should run a drop base air cleaner assembly so that you have hood clearance. The RPM is a rather tall intake. I have one on my road runner so that's how I know about hood clearance problems. I ordered a Jeg's drop base air cleaner assembly with the Jeg's K&N style filter element. So far it has served me well.
Another good dual plane choice is the older Edelbrock DP-4B which can be had at swap meets and on ebay for $50-$100. Its a good intake and on a stock HP 383 will make nearly as much power as the Performer RPM.
Once you read the article you'll be well informed and can make your choice with confidence.

Question From: Vince Mattingly 2009-05-10
Question: Trying to find a replacement battery for my 1968 Road Runner hemi. All I can find online and in stores is a "optima" and this won't work. Have any idea where to purchase? Response(s) Vince, I don't have a Hemi, but it is a 383 hi-performance and I found a battery at Advance Auto.
Question From: Greg Hendron 2009-05-07
Question: I currently have Hurst competition plus shifter in my 69 runner. My question is did Mopar ever offer a pistol grip shift in the 69 runner? Also Yearone @ Summit only list the pistol grip shift for 70's and above. Would really like to put a pistol grip in my 69 does anybody make a direct bolt in replacement for the competition plus shifter? Response(s) The pistol grip handle was not offered in '69. It was only offered in 1970 and up. Since you have a Competition Plus shifter you should be able to swap shift handles instead of swapping entire shifters. Contact Brewer's Performance (www.brewersperformance.com). They are Mopar 4 speed specialists and should be able to help you out.

Question From: Greg Hendron 2009-05-05
Question: I have a 69 Road Runner. My question is this, the other night while headed home from cruise night the headlights flashed on and off several times by themselves. When I arrived, I also noticed the side marker lights were out. Anybody have any experience with this? Any and all help with answers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Greg Response(s) I would wait till dark turn the lights on and lift the hood jiggle some wires and see if you can find the bad connection , if nothing happens try the ones under the dash , maybe try the dimmer wheel up and down on the dash. Thanks I'm gonna give it a try. My roller wheel on the dimmer is really stiff. Funny when the lights flash it's only the headlights not the dash lights. And like I said no interior light or side marker lamps??????????? Side markers on the 69 were reflectors only - they were not lit with small light bulbs like previous years were. order one of the colored wiring diagrams from these guys for your car you will find it very helpful www.classiccarwiring.com
Question From: Joe 2009-05-03

I have had nothing but problems trying to get a good pedal, I have 16in vac and I added a vac canister, but nothing seems to work. I have a hard pedal and it just does not stop the car. Question From: Jeremy Porter 2009-05-02
Question: How do you identify a Road Runner Clone. I'm looking at a 1973 Plymouth Road Runner, but the VIN for Road Runner lists the same as a Satellite. First VIN is R which is Satellite Sebring B-body. Response(s) Jeremy, you need the second letter from the VIN to tell the model of the car. The first tells you the body style, such as B-Body, E-Body, etc. In your case if the second letter is a M then it is the middle price class which is a Road Runner. The H stands for Satellite, which had more options such as air conditioning and such that increased the price to the high price class. If you want to send me the full VIN, I can help you out more to decode it.
Question From: mark 2009-05-02
Question: Hello everyone, I own a 69 Road Runner with manual steering, would very much like to convert it to power steering. Is there a complete kit that I could purchase or do I need to purchase each piece needed to make the conversion complete? And, if so, could someone tell me each and every part to complete the job, my car is 69 rr, 4spd, 383/335hp? Thanks in advance, Mark Response(s)
Question From: Rob 2009-05-01
Question: Does anybody have the proper torque sequence for a factory intake manifold on a 69 426 street Hemi? Response(s) If you can find a Chilton's or Motors manual the info will be in there. If you can't find the info online a visit to your public library may be beneficial. Sometimes they have the older manuals - and it won't cost you but a few cents to get a xerox copy made of the page.
Question From: John 2009-04-27
Question: Can someone tell me how to find manufacturing statistics for my Satellite? I am specifically wondering how many were made that year with a 318 engine and bucket seats. I have not seen many, if any, that way and I am wondering how rare that set-up is. Response(s)
Question From: jerry 2009-04-24
Question: Could anyone tell me how rare is it for a 73 Road Runner to come factory with 14 inch aluminum slots on the front and 15 inch slots on the rear? Response(s) Yes - it's so rare that it never happened. The factory never offered slotted aluminum wheels to my knowledge. The standard top of the line wheel was the Rallye, with other wheelcover options as well. An online search for a factory sales brochure should get you the info you seek. Thanks for your help. My dad bought the car new.It was a showroom car. I have polaroids of it the same day he bought it, with the window sticker on the car.My dad said when he drove it off the showroom floor that is the wheels that were on it. Is it possible that they were put on buy the dealer? or some sort of special order wheel? Yes, the wheels were most likely an option offered by the dealership to spruce up the car. Many dealers offered dealer installed options such as wheels, etc. to make the cars more desirable. It would be great to see the pics to verify this. I'd love to see them if you have them scanned. mcmopar@aol.com mcmopar did you get the pic? no, not yet. Great pics - and yes, they are aftermarket wheels.
Question From: Paul veloze 2009-04-24
Question: I have a 68 rr 383 4 speed. I am putting an edelbrock 750 mech sec model 1407 on. Does anyone have an opinion on this carb? And where do I find the reproducton steel fuel line from the carb back? Response(s) The 750 Edelbrock is a good carb and seems to run well right out of the box. A lot will depend on your cam specs, though, as a cam the produces low vacuum will cause more problems with this carb than with a Holley which is more easily adjusted for such situations. If your cam is the stocker or close to it you should have no problems.
As for the steel fuel line - you can find it from any number of sources such as Fine Lines, Year One, Classic Tube, Inline Tube or Mancini Racing. Edelbrock also offers steel lines for their carbs as well. Remember that the steel line from the carb to the fuel pump requires a small length of the pliable fuel hose to connect from the pump to the steel line. Also, the line from the tank to the pump is also isolated with flexible line as well. Google any of the sources listed and they'll hook you right up. Don't waste your money and time on the edelbrock I tried one for years , nothing but trouble espicially in summer when vapor lock sets in from the heat. I see hard starts in your near future. You should have gone with the holley 770cfm street avenger much better carb, and to any body else trying to decide holley hands down no question !
Question From: Joe 2009-04-23
Question: For 69 hardtop - door window glass stainless piece on the rear edge of glass - what is the best way to reinstall on new window if the seal was damaged and removed? What did the factory use? Response(s)
Question From: Seneca Wallace 2009-04-22
Question: I was wondering whether I should replace the factory tach in my 69 Road Runner or just put in an Auto Meter tach? Although the 440 has been reworked to a 550 HP (at the flywheel) I don't plan on going to the drag strip too often. Maybe once to see what e.t.s she is capable of turning. Response(s) You could always hook up an Auto Meter tach with quick disconnect electrical fittings and a strap for mounting it on the steering column so you could install it for the times you go to the track and then remove it for the rest of the time you don't need it. No sense cluttering up a nice interior with a bigger tach that can get in the way of your other gauges.

Question From: Brian 2009-04-18
Question: I am trying to find out if the motor in my 70 rr is the original. It is a 383 hp according to the vin and It has a 383 casting numbers on the passenger side of the motor under the head but I can't find any numbers on the block passenger side. I cleaned it off above the oil pan rail and the machine block appears not to have any numbers at all doesent it supposed to have the sequence numbers on this block or are they some where else? Thanks Response(s) Check the machined pad right of the distributor. These numbers might help. Rick Hi Brian. The Year One catalog for '66-'74 B/E Body cars (#R1201) states: "Starting in 1968 all engines and major driveline components are stamped with the vehicle identification number (V.I.N.) as a theft deterrent. During the first 2 years (until 1970), Chrysler usually stamped the entire number on the rail. From '70 on they stamped only the last 8 digits on the engine...V8 engines are stamped on the driver's side upper rear of the block in 1968, and above the passenger side oil pan rail near the motor mount on 1969-and later engines. Most warranty engines will not have the stamping (although the technicians were supposed to restamp them after replacement)."
If you found a machined pad in the described place (oil pan rail - pass. side) with no numbers stamped into it this may indicate a warranty replacement block. I would also recommend searching on the driver's side upper rear area of the block (a mirror would be helpful) to see if it is possible your block is a '68 unit. If you can't find a number in either place it is most likely an unstamped warranty replacement block. Brian, If it happens to be a replacement (warrenty) block it will probably not have any ID numbers. The machined block under the distributor directly in front of the head should have the 383 numbers, if it is a HP block it will have numbers like HP2 and a alpha character. On my 68 was the letter "D" representing 1968, I think yours will have an"F" if mother Mopar stayed with the sequence.

Question From: Jerry Woodard 2009-04-09
Question: I have replaced the alternator in my 1969 Road Runner 3 times, voltege regulator 1 time, and the engine wiring harness 1 time. The car still will not charge the battery, when I remove a battery cable the car dies. When the car is running and I step on the brakes the dash meter moves left indicating a drain. The meter will not show a charge at any time. What do I check next? Response(s) I would try another voltage regulator , auto zone has a nice one , I think its a solid state or newer design and you know you can have the alternator tested at the parts houses for free. Jerry, I have a Mopar charging system booklet from Chrysler that has a lot of information how to check out a charging problem. Email me back with your direct email address and I'll be glad to send it to you.
Question From: David Woodward 2009-04-05
Question: Where can I buy the trim for a vinyl top for a 68 Road Runner? I need the small piece (one for each side of the top) that goes from the quarter window to the rear window. Question From: patchypup 2009-04-05
Question: Have a 1973 red Road Runner. Got AM Racing wheels, but used something that must have taken the coating off because they are now dull. Have used Mothers, a ball for polishing and other products. Nothing makes them shine. Any ideas of what I could do to get the shine back? Or, how would I go about painting the wheels red? The outside rim still has a great shine. Thanks Response(s) I happened to research that online the other day. Then I got thinking, my American Racing wheels were almost battleship gray they were so bad(sitting outside since before I bought it)that I had to do something. I took a brass wire wheel and began to buff the wheel not knowing where this would lead. The brass wheels I bought at Sears, they removed pitting and oxidation, then I polished the wheel with a drill operated rouse wheel. I didn't finish the wheel yet but I'm quite happy with the outcome. It took about 2-3 hours.
Question From: William C. Beaty 2009-04-05
Question: My car is missing my fender tag but I have an almost complete broadcast sheet. I am missing the sequence # and that is about it. What I want to know is does the sequence # appear on the fender tag? I know I could have one made by Galen Tag Service, but if this appears on the fender tag it is a waste of time and money to me. I have a 70 6 pack Road Runner and it is the only thing that makes this car incomplete...please help me. Thanks, William Response(s) on my 73 roadrunner the complete vin is listed at the bottom of the fender tag including sequence #

Question From: Butch 2009-03-30
Question: How do you remove the stainless on the drip rail with out bending it on a 69 Runner? Response(s) Butch, it is really difficult be it can be done. I used an old style bottle opener ( the one for pop bottles with the pressed on tops) and positioned it against the top ( be sure to mask off where the opener will contact the top, if it is vinyl you should be ok) and CAREFULLY spring the molding up to allow it to come off. If you should trach it, it is available new from various resotration parts houses.

Question: Does anyone know the proper method for installing a stripe kit and how to locate the dust trail on 1970 Plymouth Road Runner? Response(s)
Question From: Joey O 2009-03-26
Question: Where on the engine of a '69 Road Runner with a 383cid would I find the vin number to check for matching numbers? Thanks Response(s) The 383’s have the 383 stamped in a machined pad to the side and just under the distributor and in front of the passenger side cylinder head. The VIN stamping is actually on the passenger side of the block at the oil pan rail. There is a small pad machined in the block right above where the oil pan attaches right near the passenger side engine mount area (with the engine in the car). You may need some carb cleaner and a small wire or nylon brush to clean up the area if it is somewhat greasy. The number stamped on this pad should be the last 6 numbers in the VIN if I remember correctly.
Question From: Dan Reggie 2009-03-23
Question: Did the 1970 V Code (440 six pack) Road Runner come from the factory with the heat risers removed from the right side exhaust manifold and the holes welded shut? Manifold casting number 2899879.
Thanks in advance,
Dan Response(s) No, the heat riser was fully functional from the factory so as to meet emissions standards. The heat riser closed when the engine was cold. When the engine was started the passenger side exhaust was partially closed off and the warm exhaust was directed towrd the driver's side through the bottom of the intake manifold, warming it up so the carb choke would open faster and reduce the amount of time the engine ran rich due to the cold weather. When the temperature reached a certain threshold the heat riser valve opened and exhaust gas was free to flow through the passenger side exhaust pipe.
Yours was obviously doctored by a previous owner (as was mine) most likely because after the passage of time the heat riser would rust and become non-functional. Since there were no replacement parts for a rebuild it was just cut out and the hole welded shut. It also could have been removed by a previous owner seeking a little more flow through the exhaust system as they did produce a certain amount of restriction.
If you want the original look and function of the heat riser again you can got to Year One's website (www.yearone.com) and get a new heat riser assembly and install it in your manifold.

Question From: Joel 2009-03-12
Question: I have just purchased a 1969 Plymouth Road Runner 383/4 speed, bucket seat, non console car. I am rebuiling to factory stock. Sometime in the past the original hurst shifter handle was cut off and welded with no bend. Is there any way to find out the exact shifter assembly I need? Response(s) I can take a digital pic of mine (equipped just like yours) and send it to you if you like. send me an email and I'll be happy to get it right out to you. mcmopar@aol.com That would be great. Do you know for sure yours is what came on your car? I have seen pictures of cars like mine on e-bay (69-buckets-nonconsole) with 3 different styles of sticks. This is why I am confused. Thanks for your help. Joel Yes, this is the original shifter that came with this car. I have owned the car twice - the first time I owned it I bought it from its original owner. My dad also had a '69 4 speed with bucket seats and no console and it had this same shifter in it. I have the pics of my shifter and will be more than happy to send them to you if you will email me at the above address. Question From: michael 2009-03-09
Question: I'm looking for a 1973 Road Runner turquoise blue with red stripes and black interior. It also was auto on the floor and a 440 engine. I purchased it brand new had it for one year and then I meet my future wife of 35 years and sold it back to the dealer on Rt.46 in North New Jersey near teterboro air port. My wife has passed away this Nov 9,2008 and I'm trying to see if I can get the second love of my life back. I have never seen a 1973 Road Runner with those colors. If anyone has seen her let me know. Thanks Mike Response(s) hey being that it was new it was numbers matching and orignal color try http://www.gvgovier.com/ ask about how many were made with those colors engine ect. if you happen to have any kind of registration or anytyhing with the vin number on it just go to secretary of state they should be able to tell you who has registered it last but there will probably be a small fee thanks, only have set of keys with tag showing stock number 73-2137 and serial #2848 To find the car will be a long shot but if the dealer is still in business you might check with them to see if they still have any of their old records. Without the VIN it will be nearly a miracle.

Question From: Bill 2009-02-13
Question: Looking for the correct location on the doors of the running bird for my 1969 Runner. Thanks, Bill Response(s) The decals have a built-in template in that their paper backing is cut to help in locating them in front of (towards the front of the car) the road runner script on the doors. If you notice, the paper backing has a small tab to the rear of the road runner decal and then a vertical section that goes upwards a small amount. The tab is designed to fit under the road script and the vertical section butts up against the r in road on the driver's side and the last r in runner on the passenger side. If this does not make sense email me and I'll send you a pic and/or sketch.

Question From: Brad 2009-01-27
Question: I have a '70 Road Runner and a 440+6 with a 4-speed. The compression ratio is 13:1, but I want a car that'll run on pump gas. I don't plan on racing the car - strictly street cruisin'. Does anyone know how to fix this? Is there any way to lower the CR? I am not against disassembling the engine, so any advice will be appreciated. Thanks!! Response(s) The only way to lower your CR enough to run premium pump gas is to swap your pistons out for lower CR units. You can still run a fairly high compression ratio with aluminum heads but 13:1 is far too high. There are a lot of piston manufacturers out there that you can contact about which piston would be best for your desired use (cruising, street driving). Contact their tech departments and get some recommendations and go from there.
Good luck! Brad, in addition to the above response, if you decide to change the pistons, try and find a set that is very near the weight of your existing set (a little heavier) and have your machine shop weigh and adjust your new pistons to match your old set weight. This way the pistons can be swapped without the need to re-balance the crank/rod/piston assembly. A thicker head gasket can also help you get to the CR number you are trying to achieve. Thank you guys for the information it is very helpful!!!! Brad Well just give it too me and you wont have to worry about it no more.....

Question From: Steve 2009-01-25
Question: I have a 69 Plymouth Road Runner. I am trying to find out about the push buttons for the door handles. I want to know if the original is black or chrome? Please advise. Response(s) Steve, I have seen pictures of "original" Road Runners with both. I was told by two different restoration houses that most came with the black knobs but some with the decor package had the chrome. Hope this helps. Steve, the answer above is for the inside door lock pushbuttons, from all I have been able to find the external door handle pushbuttons should be black. I have seen the pushbuttons only on various websites and can be swapped on your existing handles. I am the 2nd on my 69 and the handeles and buttons are crome.

Question From: Greg Curry 2009-01-02
Question: I am restoring a 73 Road Runner. I have seen a few 73 Road Runners that can roll down the back side windows. Mine does not even have the roll down knobs in the back seat, but would like to add this if possible. Thanks Greg Curry Response(s) Is there supposed to be a question here? The only way you could pull this off is if you found a donor car such as a 73 Satellite with roll down rear windows. You could then modify yours using the donor car as a reference, using the parts from the donor, but be advised - it won't be an easy modification and will more than likely devalue your car. Make sure your vin starts with RM21. If it doesn't, you have a satellite cloned into a Roadrunner.
